My Collaborate for a Cause Project with the ever so lovely Nicola Lee from Sweet Shabby Crafts!

As you may have realised by now, I am participating in "Collaborate for a Cause" along with Nicola Lee from Sweet Shabby Crafts. If you don't know much about this lovely lady and her amazing business, pop over to her facebook or Madeit store and see the beautiful fabrics and crafty items on offer. It was from her gorgeous shop that I bought the Lecien Vintage style Little Red Riding fabric that I have used a few times for my appliques. It is also from her shop that the infamous Michael Miller "Strawberry Tea Party" fabric is being used for this Collaborate for a Cause project. It was kindly donated by Nicola, who is also making an exquisite Dolly and hair piece out of the same fabric, to co-ordinate with my Organic Cotton Appliqued Tee and Skirt. (which is my contribution to the cause!)
Here is a little piccie of this sublime fabric...
Excuse the creases, but I had to unravel it and admire it in the full and wasn't able to get it back to looking like how it arrived!!
It has been so wonderful meeting such a kind and awesome lady, such as Nicola and I am so glad we are able to donate our proceeds to such a vital and worthy cause. The cause is known as ARC, or Noah's Ark and helps support children and their families with Autism, Chromosomal Abnormalities and Down's Syndrome, by providing engaging and educational equipment and supplies for these children. We are hoping to get alot of bidders, as every single dime goes straight to this organisation and we want to see these children and their families get better and more adequate equipment! The Auction will take place on the 30th July, so please keep this date marked in your calender and help us by bidding on these items! Here is a sneak peek of Part A of my contribution...the appliqued Organic Cotton Tshirt which Part B will see a matching skirt to accompany it!! I like to call it..."Butterfly Tea Party!"
Don't forget, Friday the 8th of July at 7pm will be the time when I draw the lucky winner of the 500 liker giveaway! So if you haven't commented yet, please do! Till then,

Ciao xox

My 500 Liker Thankyou!! Post a comment to win xox

On the 5th of March, 2011, less than 4 months ago, 4 Lil Babushkas opened!! I have stumbled along the way, and am still slowly learning the ropes of an online business. But I have met some amazing customers during this process! I never in a million years thought I'd be at 500 likers in such a short space of time...but I am getting closer and closer!! As a HUGE thankyou to all of my likers, I have decided to giveaway an Organic Cotton Long Sleeved Tshirt in this season's newest and might I add, funkiest colour!! It has only been released and I am soo glad to have been one of the first shops to be in line to nab some!

The winner will get to choose the size required, with sizes starting from 00 and go up to Size 6. Please bare in mind these organic cotton tees are rather fitted, and to ensure ample room, I would advise choosing the next size up to what you would normally purchase for your child! Even the fabric choice will be given to the winner so please peruse my fabric album on my facebook site for fabric choices:)

All you have to do to enter this competition is to comment on the new colour in the Organic Cotton range and what fabric you would choose to have appliqued onto it if you were the winner. Then, I will use Random.Org to generate the lucky winner's number, correlating to their post comment!! For example...comment Number 1= Number 1 in random.org and Comment 2= number 2 and so forth!! Obviously, if I have commented below another person's comment, I am not included. The numbering of comments only relates to anyone that's not mwah!!!If you become a follower of my blog and a facebook liker, that entitles you to enter a maximum of three times to enter and three times more likely to win!! One for commenting, one for following my blog and one for becoming a liker of my facebook site!! So, please get commenting!!! Have fun people and thankyou from the bottom of my heart for all of your love and support thus far!!

Adieu xox

I have decided to open a Made.It storefront for my handmade items!

After asking many people about where they prefer to purchase handmade goodies, the concensus was Made. It!! So, to accomodate these customers, I have decided to open a Made.It storefront!! I have already set it up, now to just continue sewing more items ready to list!! I have really been getting into all things Vintage atm, and have even raided my Mother's 20 year old kitchen utensils and her stash of lace and fabrics!! She couldn't believe it when I took a gorgeous hand crafted Potato Holder made from pottery that's 20 years old!!! She had it heading to the trash!! But, as they say, another man's trash or woman in this case, definitely became my treasure!! Here is a little snapshot of a Vintage Style Long Sleeved Organic Cotton tee I've lovingly hand stitched using super fine thread, ready to list in my Made.It store!
I have fallen in love with the beauty of yesteryear, and only wish we could all go back to that time when life was much slower paced and simple:) The idyllic lifestyle though, would definitely not have seen me 'blogging'!! I would've been talking on the olden style phones and in an out house!! Life really does fly by! But on another note, I have also stumbled across some 1982 Smurf linen (an old bedsheet actually!) and have purchased it ready for a gorgeous appliqued item!! Will keep you in the loop as to when it arrives!! When completed, the Smurf item will also make an appearance into my new store!! Till then, Ciao xox

Am having so much fun hearing the creative ideas from my likers!

Here is the Imported Japanese Lil Girl Dolly fabric I have asked my likers to view...in order to create an appliqued Organic tee!! Whoever has the most creative idea, will be awarded a $5 voucher towards a custom order or any item in my shop!! I really love to see what other people create in their own minds and it is super fun for them to see their creation emerge once I complete their suggestion!!! Here is the lil skirt I want the tee to co-ordinate with and I will even make a matching hair accessory!

Have fun creating and most of all...thankyou to everyone for sharing your ideas!! Remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all ideas are beautiful :))

Why Organic...?!!

A few people have been asking me why I want to use Organic cotton?!
Well...for a little insight into my world...I have a thyroid disease known as Hashimoto's Disease. One of the worst contenders for this disease are genetically modified foods, especially dairy; meats and fresh produce.
To help my disease, Organic foods were stipulated by my Specialist and to be honest, I have never looked back!! The flavours of Organic food are far more superior and the health benefits of eating non GMF and pesticide free produce are amazing!!!
I also have eczema, which makes my skin super sensitive and after alot of research, I found that Organic cotton is pesticide and chemical free,it's also not genetically modified...making it perfect for people with sensitive skin!!
It is also SUPER soft and feels amazing to touch!
Organic cotton is basically grown in fields free from pesticides and allowed to grow freely...pretty much how it was once grown before civilization grew the need for HIGH turnaround and HIGH demand.
It is grown with purity and simplicity and even though it takes longer to grow...the results are a much softer cotton, without the harsh chemicals.
So...with all of this info...
My quest for Organic cottoned clothing was thus born!!!
Sadly, all I found were pretty plain and very expensive clothing made out of Organic cotton and decided it was time to fix this up!!
I knew then that Organic cotton clothing was what I really wanted to focus on for 4 Lil Babushkas and set out to make this available for my customers!
I have loved arts and craft ever since I was small.Every Tuesday night was craft night in our house and My Mother fostered a love of sewing in my life.
I watched her sewing away till all hours of the night and am soo glad she did because now here I am doing hand stitched appliques on Organic clothing and am loving every minute of it!!
I have loved handmade clothes for...forever and have been playing around with various styles that I want to create... It isn't always easy to source Organic cotton, but I do try my hardest to stock it.When I can't get Organic, only Designer and quality cotton is used.
I really want 100% of my clothing thats hand appliqued to be created on Organic cotton clothing and I am doing my best to achieve this!! ATM...it isn't 100%, but hopefully this can change.
Organic cotton clothing is only just emerging, but hopefully we can see it escalate and take off!! Together we can take a stand against GM products and give our children purity and simplicity, without having to pay the earth!!!

Current work in progress!!

After listing a few items with My Etsy last night...I am getting more and more excited with my current work in progress!! Bubble skirts for lil girlies and some funky trousers for lil boys!! Hair accessories for lil girls are also underway, with some really hip bandanas for lil boys!! There are soo many hair accessories for girls out there, but what about the lil men in our lives?!! They will coordinate with the appliqued tees or singlets and can't wait to have some up and ready for sale!
My Geisha Dolly seems to be a hit at the moment, with one of my adult friends wanting something similar on a singlet for herself!!!
"The Little Red Riding Hood" fabric was a dream to applique, and am happy to say that is one of my items listed on My Etsy!
I have also just found a supplier for organic singlets and will be purchasing some when their new stock arrives.
When I purchased "The Very Hungry Caterpiller" fabric, I was left with a gorgeous butterfly panel afterwards.
Soo...I am going to make a really pretty taggy blankie for my darling lil girl who is nearly 9 mths old now!! Soon I'll be organising her 1st birthday! But here is what I did with the Hungry Caterpiller himself!!
Better get going and do some sewing!!
Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Cat in the Hat and The Very Hungry Caterpiller fabric en route!!!

After being open for only one month, I am getting more and more excited each time I thread the needle!!!
I actually go to bed dreaming of which fabric will go with this singlet, or this Tshirt!!!
After sourcing for little girlie's fabric, I realised I'd better get my little boy designs up and running...

What better than sourcing some Robert Kaufman "Cat in the Hat" fabric and "The Very Hungry Caterpiller"?!
I adore Dr Seuss and my son is obsessed with The Very Hungry Caterpiller!!In fact, my 2 1/2 year old son helped me pick Robert Kaufman Organic Cotton Train material ready to be made into pants and applique tees for Winter! What can I say, my boys got taste!!!!LOL

So whoever my 50th liker is on facebook, gets to choose from cupcakes; babushkas; cat in the hat; the very hungry caterpiller or organic cotton trains!!!! Can't wait to get there and see my little work in progress!
I'm off now to applique some singlets, and hoping Postman Pat brings me my lil bundle of fabric in tomorrow's post!!!till then, nite allxoxo
